"Jun 15, 2010 ... It is the last great migration on Earth" - NY times

Web Earth Online members, a call to action!

In Africa the government of Tanzania is proposing to put a highway through the Serengeti so that China can mine minerals for cell phones. Science has shown that a highway through the Serengeti will stop the great migration of Wildebeest. Without the migration the herds would starve to death. There have been proposals to route this highway around the Serengeti that would allow the great migration to continue. Germany has offered money to help route the highway around the Serengeti.

If you want to help stop the highway from being run through the Serengeti, then here is a petition that you can fill out online:

It's not to be shameful to be a human, it's to be shameful of the people that care more about money and themselves. These people either didn't know or could care less about these migrating animals..

I just don't like how people begin to hate their own kind because of these careless people that nom on money all day or only care for themselves.

I'm not sure if that would really work. I mean, the government of Africa get so much money off of tourists watching the great migration, why would they want to ruin that...?

Almost everyone living has a phone, China has a pop of 1 billion, therefore were doomed.

Wilder beasts are sometime prey, so what happens to the Lions?

That should help show what's happening to the lion population already...

I wish these people could understand what an impact it would make on the environment. everything is a chain, if you eliminate one part of it, everything will feel an impact.

I wish these people could not be so selfish to realize these things. and if they do, i hope they could at least care. These days, all people care about if one thing: money. of course not everyone, but things would be a lot different if people would take the time to care about others, rather it be caring about other people, or animals and the environment.

Well TECHNICALLY, you could say that they ARE caring about others- you know, all those POOR, POOR people who don't have a phone? They're helping them, right?

A bit of sarcasm, in case you didn't get it. :P
Couldn't help it.

Though money is just a piece of paper, any business will do anything to increase its income. China has been advancing at a steady pace, the minerals will bring in great income from cellphones. It's like Siberia in Russia. There's amazing deposits of natural resources, yet too dangerous to get them currently.

I read an article on this, and I trully believe that nature's creations are more important. Anyone can find money.....yet the Great Migration is one of a kind. Some humans disgust me. I'm glad that another country is trying to stop this. Besides, China has ruined their homeland, why ruin another?
